There are a number of different diets that are high in protein. However, there is one that stands out from the others. Meat, and nothing but meat, is the primary focus of the carnivore diet, and this is how the diet got its name.
The carnivore diet is an elimination diet that has become very popular in a very short amount of time. The goal of this diet is to cut back on or get rid of carbohydrates while eating more fats and proteins from animals. This diet is different from other high-protein, low-carb diets in that it allows absolutely no carbohydrates.
The majority of people who experiment with this diet do so for one of two reasons: to reduce their body weight or to better control an autoimmune disorder.
Carnivore diet vs keto
People who have tried the ketogenic or keto diet often switch to the carnivore diet as their next eating plan. Unlike the carnivore diet, the ketogenic diet, or simply “keto,” is one that is rich in fat and moderately high in protein while being extremely low in carbohydrates. However, the high-fat, low-carbohydrate, moderate-protein ketogenic diet isn’t for everyone. Some people may prefer higher-protein plans like the carnivore diet.
Carnivore diet macros
Currently, there is no consensus on what the macro-breakdown of this diet should be. Aside from limiting carbohydrate intake to almost nothing, not much has been known about the macronutrient ratios for this diet.
This diet doesn’t make any difference between how much protein and fat are eaten. It does not advise daily targets for any specific nutrients at this time.
People who strictly follow this diet do not consume any carbohydrates. However, for those who want some wiggle room with this diet, do incorporate some amount of carbohydrate into their meals.
Carnivore diet food list
This diet allows for only a limited number of foods on its approved list. As you might have guessed, almost all of the foods that are included on this list are animal products and primarily meat-based. Plant-based foods are almost completely excluded from this diet.
However, there are a few gray areas that can allow for some variations. Few people argue that since dairy products like milk and yogurt are of animal origin, it is okay to include them in this diet. Depending on how strictly you want to adhere to this diet, here are some foods that you can incorporate into your daily diet:
- Bacon
- Beef and red meat, such as steak and ground beef
- Bone marrow
- Bone broth
- Butter
- Chicken
- Eggs
- Fish like tuna, salmon, trout, mackerel, and sardines, etc.
- Lamb
- Lard
- Milk
- Organ meats such as tongue, heart, kidney and liver
- Pork
- Sausages such as turkey, chicken, pork
- Seafoods such as oysters, lobster, shrimps, scallops, and crabs

3 Day meal plan
Let’s design the meal plan now that we’ve established what a carnivore diet is, what you may eat on it, and what you shouldn’t eat on it. The meal plan includes meals that call for olive oil. Butter, lard, or any other animal fat can be substituted for olive oil if you wish to do a stricter version of this diet.
Feel free to substitute your own recipes, adjust the serving size and add more meals if you need to based on your daily nutritional needs.

Ingredients
Method
- Crack the eggs in a medium-sized bowl and add a pinch of salt. Whisk till the eggs and salt are blended.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add butter and let it melt.
- Once the butter is bubbly, add in the egg mixture and immediately stir in small circles with a silicone spatula. Continue to stir until the eggs start to solidify and very small curds begin to form. This will take upto 30 seconds.
- Continue to stir, but this time, instead of small circles, move the spatula to make longer strokes across the pan. Do this for 20 seconds, till larger egg curds begin to form.
- Take the pan off the heat when the eggs have firmed up a bit but are still runny in some places.
- Serve immediately with your favorite toast.
